「みつめあうだけ」オープンスタジオ・イベント (English Information below)
まちだリなは、身体の意図しない反応や、それによって生じる時間のずれや遅れに関心を持ち、アニメーションや映像を主軸に作品を制作しています。今回の横浜での滞在制作では、視線入力装置を使用して言葉を選び対話を行う知人との出会いを背景としたプロジェクトを行います。
今回のオープンスタジオ・イベントでは、「ただ20分間、みつめあうだけ」を体験する場を開きます。参加者は一対一で向かい合い、発声や身振り手振りを行わず、ただひたすらに、見つめ合います。成功も失敗もなく、ふと目をそらしてしまってもかまいません。そこで生まれた視線の動きを映像として可視化し、「目で話す時間」の軌跡を投影作品として記録します。投影はどなたでも自由にご覧いただけます。
これらは、言葉を使わずに、視線だけで向き合うコミュニケーションや対話の可能性を探る試みです。視線は情報を伝えるためだけのものではなく、相手の存在を受け止め、自らの存在を差し出す営みでもあるでしょう。こうして立ち現れる、社会の速度から見れば「遅延」とも捉えられる時間に向き合います。このイベントで参加者とともに遅延すること・言葉が届ききらないこと、だからこそ現れるコミュニケーションを探り、2027年の展示へとつなげていきます。

Lina Machida
‘Observing’ Open Studio Event
Lina Machida creates works primarily in animation and video, driven by an interest in involuntary bodily reactions and the temporal shifts or delays that arise from them. For this residency in Yokohama, she is undertaking a project inspired by a meeting with her friend who communicates by selecting words using an eye-tracking device.
This open studio event offers an experience of simply “gazing at one another for twenty minutes.” Participants sit facing each other one-on-one and —without speaking or using gestures — engage in an unbroken exchange of gazes. There is no right or wrong way to do this; it is perfectly fine if one’s eyes happen to wander. The movements of the gaze that emerge during this time are visualised as video, recording the trajectory of this “time spent speaking with the eyes” as a projected artwork. Anyone is welcome to view the projection.
These efforts explore the possibilities of communication and dialogue that rely solely on the gaze, bypassing spoken language. The gaze serves not merely to convey information but acts as an exchange in which one acknowledges the presence of the other while offering up one’s own existence. In doing so, we engage with a form of time that — when viewed against the rapid pace of society — might be perceived as a “delay.” Through this event, Machida will explore, together with participants, the nature of delay, the moments when words fail to fully bridge the gap, and the unique forms of communication that emerge precisely from these conditions, developing her project further for a 2027 exhibition.
